Our Work in Colorado

Colorado’s Natural Medicine Health Act will help more people find the relief and healing they need in a supervised setting.

About Colorado’s Natural Medicine Program

A carefully regulated, step-by-step process for rolling out natural medicine services:

  • A 22-month rule-making period will allow for careful consideration of rules and safety standards, guided by the state’s new Natural Medicine Advisory Board. Appointed by the governor and confirmed by the senate, the board includes experts in natural medicine and traditional health care services.

  • The Board will guide and advise the rule-making process for psilocybin and psilocin. Beginning in June 2026, the policy could expand to include three other natural medicines, dimethyltryptamine, ibogaine, and mescaline (excluding peyote), all of which demonstrate unique healing and therapeutic properties.

  • Adults 21 and older will be able to access approved psychedelic medicines under the guidance of a licensed facilitator at designated and licensed healing centers, approved healthcare facilities like palliative care, and, where applicable, in the comfort and safety of their home.

  • Because no one should be prosecuted for trying to heal, the Natural Medicine Health Act removes criminal penalties for the use, possession, cultivation, and sharing of a personal use amount of natural medicines in or on the grounds of a private residence.

NOT allowed in Colorado’s natural medicine program:

  • Retail sales or dispensaries.

  • Access to minors under 21.

  • Use of peyote, to conserve the endangered peyote cactus and respect the guidance of the National Council of Native American Churches.

What We Do

  • Advocate for regulations that create a natural medicine program that is of high quality, accessible, equitable and maximizes safety.

  • Educate stakeholders, policymakers, regulators, and the general public on Colorado’s program.

  • Support natural medicine healing centers, training schools, and facilitators in getting off the ground with technical assistance, learning collaboratives, and high-quality programming.

  • Serve as a convener for the Colorado natural medicine ecosystem to collaboratively address goals and challenges, organize around shared needs, deliver services to high standards and best practices, and create a vibrant network of care that will serve as a model for the world.

Get Involved

We are building new programs to support safe, accessible, and equitable natural medicine therapy for Coloradans. If you are interested in getting involved in this work or staying updated on the latest news, we’d love to hear from you.

“I served in Afghanistan, but back home I suffered. PTSD, anger and depression. Many Colorado vets like me die by suicide. I could have been one. Psilocybin therapy helped when nothing else did. The FDA calls it a breakthrough therapy because it breaks the cycle of pain and the negative thoughts.”
